mommy bebot's 60th birthday

mommy bebot @ 60

my mother in law celebrated her 60th birthday at home with relatives and friends. it was something i never experienced when both my folks turned 60 (about 4 years ago). well, it’s totally different when you’re the only child and your folks are used to celebrating birthdays in an instant. instant is defined as, buying food from chinese restaurants or the four of us (that includes my wife) just having dinner in one of the city’s finest restaurants.

last sunday was a different experience.

jm, her only son whose expertise is cooking, did the kitchen thingie with the help of a cousin and a volunteer neighbor. tine and i were working on the aesthetics (e.g. the video presentation, and streamer designs), her other two daughters, thru tine, arranged for a make-over session.

the whole thing was a perfect orchestra.

by the way, here are 10 things to remember on my mom-in-laws’ 60th birthday:

  1. dinner starts early at 5pm
  2. family pictures are important. very important.
  3. you get to receive a dozen cakes as birthday presents. eventually, you’ll worry about how to finish them (or the ants will).
  4. relatives eat fast and leave faster.
  5. lechon (roasted pig) usually evaporates the soonest.
  6. barkada photo shots are equally important as no. 2. (and it had to be taken more than once to get the most young-looking pose)
  7. the hard-est liquor in the house – maria clara sangria (a bottle or 2 may be)
  8. neighbors enter thru the kitchen door…and leaves thru it as well….unnoticed.
  9. videoke is a perfect light of the party.
  10. party ends up at 9pm.
